How and where to use guide
Premdor FD30 fire door. Paint Grade Premium, 1981 x 762 44mm.
Typical applications and locations
This FD30 fire door is specified for internal locations requiring 30-minute fire resistance, such as hallways, stairwells, plant rooms, and circulation areas in residential and light commercial buildings. The paint grade finish makes it ideal for practical environments where appearance is secondary to performance and durability. It is particularly suited to refurbishment projects where existing door openings may require adjustment.
- Internal fire-rated doorways in flats, houses, and commercial premises
- Staircase enclosures and escape routes
- Utility rooms, boiler rooms, and plant areas
- Refurbishment and retrofit installations where trimming may be necessary
Installation and trimming
The door is supplied with exposed lippings on the two long edges, which facilitate straightforward installation and allow for on-site trimming if required to fit non-standard openings. Measure your door frame carefully before trimming. The lipped edges provide a clean finished appearance and protect the veneer during handling and installation. Always use appropriate fire-rated hardware, hinges, and seals to maintain the door's FD30 rating.
- Check frame dimensions and allow for hinges and latch hardware before trimming
- Trim only the top and bottom edges if adjustment is needed; do not trim the lipped long edges
- Install with fire-rated hinges and hardware to preserve fire safety certification
- Fit appropriate intumescent seals and smoke seals as required by building regulations
Finishing and maintenance
The door arrives unfinished with an unlacquered veneer surface ready for painting. Apply a suitable primer and undercoat before your chosen topcoat to ensure even coverage and durability. The paint grade veneer is designed to accept standard interior paint systems. Once finished, maintain the door with regular cleaning and touch-up painting as needed to protect the veneer and preserve fire safety performance.
- Prime all surfaces, including edges and lippings, before applying topcoats
- Use interior-grade paint systems suitable for timber veneer
- Allow adequate drying time between coats as per paint manufacturer instructions
- Inspect regularly for damage to the paint finish and repair promptly to prevent moisture ingress
Safety and regulatory compliance
This door is certified to FD30 fire safety standards and must be installed with appropriate fire-rated hardware and seals to maintain its rating. Do not modify the door structure or drill additional holes beyond those required for standard hardware. Ensure all installation work complies with current Building Regulations and fire safety requirements for your application.
- Maintain FD30 certification by using only fire-rated hinges, locks, and seals
- Do not drill or cut additional holes that may compromise fire performance
- Fit smoke seals and intumescent strips as specified by building control
- Refer to manufacturer installation guidance and relevant Building Regulations for your project
