Sterling OSB Type 3 board 2400mm x 590mm x 18mmTG4 Tongue & Groove

What this product is and who it is for

This is an OSB3 (oriented strand board grade 3) panel with tongue and groove edges on the long sides. OSB3 is rated for structural use in load-bearing applications and humid environments. It is suitable for professional builders, contractors, and serious DIY customers undertaking flooring, platform floors, and roof decking projects. The T&G profile allows boards to interlock, reducing movement and creating a more stable finished surface. The 18mm thickness provides adequate strength for typical domestic and light commercial applications.

  • OSB3 grade: suitable for structural and load-bearing use
  • Tongue and groove edges: interlocking profile reduces gaps and movement
  • 18mm thickness: appropriate for floor joists at standard spacing and roof decking
  • Zero added formaldehyde: meets modern environmental standards
  • BBA approved: independently certified for quality and performance

Sizing and compatibility

Each board measures 2400mm long by 590mm wide by 18mm thick. The 2400mm length suits standard floor and roof joist spacings in UK construction. The 590mm width is a half-width board, meaning two boards placed side by side cover approximately 1180mm, which aligns with typical 16-inch (406mm) and 18-inch (457mm) joist centres. Check your joist spacing and structural design before ordering to confirm the correct number of boards needed. The T&G edges are precision-engineered to fit together without gaps, but ensure joists are level and properly spaced for best results.

  • Board dimensions: 2400 x 590 x 18mm
  • Half-width format: two boards cover approximately 1180mm
  • Compatible with standard UK joist spacing (400mm, 450mm, 600mm centres)
  • T&G profile requires level, properly spaced joists for tight fit
  • Confirm structural design and load requirements before purchase

Pack contents and storage

Each board is supplied individually. Order the quantity needed based on your floor or roof area and joist layout. Store boards flat and level on a dry, well-ventilated site. Protect from direct rain and excessive moisture during storage, as OSB can absorb water if left exposed. Allow boards to acclimatise to site conditions for 24 to 48 hours before fixing, particularly if stored in damp conditions or after transport in cold weather. Stack boards with spacers between them to allow air circulation.

  • Supplied as individual boards
  • Store flat and level on a dry site
  • Protect from rain and standing water
  • Allow 24 to 48 hours acclimatisation before fixing
  • Use spacers when stacking to allow air circulation

Pre-installation checks and fixing

Before laying, inspect the joist structure to ensure it is level, square, and properly spaced. Check that joists are at the correct centres (typically 400mm, 450mm, or 600mm) and that any structural engineer's requirements are met. Ensure all joists are sound and free from rot or significant deflection. The board should be fixed with ring-shank nails or screws at 150mm centres along joists and 300mm centres at intermediate supports, following the manufacturer's fixing schedule. Use corrosion-resistant fixings in damp areas. Stagger joints between boards to avoid continuous lines across joists, and leave a small gap (typically 2 to 3mm) around the perimeter to allow for minor movement.

  • Verify joist spacing matches board width and structural design
  • Check joists are level, square, and free from defects
  • Use ring-shank nails or screws at 150mm joist centres, 300mm intermediate
  • Stagger board joints to avoid continuous lines
  • Leave 2 to 3mm perimeter gap for movement
  • Use corrosion-resistant fixings in humid or damp areas
