How and where to use guide

22mm 2400x600 Caber Tongue & Groove P5 MR Flooring Chipboard CPD Compliant 22TG

Primary applications

This chipboard is widely used as a structural floor panel in domestic properties and selected commercial buildings. It provides a stable base for finished flooring such as carpet, vinyl, laminate, or timber. The precision tongue and groove profile ensures boards lock together securely, creating a unified floor surface with minimal movement.

  • Commercial flooring (specific applications)
  • Substrate for carpet, vinyl, laminate, or timber finishes

Moisture exposure limits

As a P5 MR grade board, this product is suitable for areas with moderate moisture exposure typical of living spaces, bedrooms, and hallways. It is not appropriate for kitchens with high steam exposure, bathrooms, or any area subject to standing water or prolonged dampness. For wet rooms, specify a marine-grade or cement-bonded board instead.

  • Not suitable for bathrooms or wet rooms
  • Not suitable for areas with standing water

Subfloor and joist preparation

The subfloor must be dry, level, and structurally sound before laying. Timber joists should be spaced at maximum 400mm centres to support the 22mm thickness adequately. Check that joists are not deflecting under load and that any existing flooring is removed. Ensure adequate ventilation beneath the floor to prevent moisture accumulation.

  • Joist spacing: maximum 400mm centres
  • Remove existing flooring if necessary
  • Ensure adequate underfloor ventilation

Installation and finishing

Lay boards with the tongue and groove profile engaged, staggering joints across joists for maximum strength. Once fixed, the floor is ready for finishing materials. Sand lightly if required before applying adhesive for vinyl or carpet. The stable, high-density construction minimises movement and squeaking once properly installed.

  • Engage tongue and groove profile fully
  • Stagger board joints across joists
  • Light sanding may be required before finishing
