How and where to use guide

Chamfered and Rounded Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 97mm

Typical applications

This profile is designed for trim work, shelving edges, and decorative architectural applications. Use it to finish the visible edges of shelving units, create professional-looking door frames, or add detail to built-in cabinetry. The 97mm width makes it suitable for substantial trim applications and feature work. The moisture-resistant coating makes it particularly suitable for kitchen and bathroom installations where exposure to steam and humidity is expected.

  • Shelving edge trim and finishing
  • Door frame and architrave work
  • Built-in cabinetry detailing
  • Kitchen and bathroom trim applications
  • Feature wall panelling and cladding

Installation and cutting

MDF cuts cleanly with standard woodworking tools. Use a fine-toothed saw blade to minimise chipping on the pre-primed surface. The profile can be fixed using wood screws, nails, or adhesive depending on the application and substrate. Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and stable before installation. The 5.49m length allows for efficient planning of longer runs with minimal joints.

  • Measure and mark cutting lines clearly before cutting
  • Use fine-toothed saw blades to maintain edge quality
  • Pre-drill screw holes to prevent splitting
  • Allow adhesive to cure fully before applying finish coats
  • Plan joint locations to minimise visible seams

Finishing and maintenance

The primed surface is ready for painting or staining. Fill any cut edges, screw holes, or joints with suitable MDF filler before final decoration. The moisture-resistant coating provides baseline protection, but painted or sealed finishes will enhance durability in wet areas. Avoid prolonged direct water contact and ensure adequate ventilation in moisture-prone spaces. Clean with a dry cloth; avoid excessive moisture exposure during storage and installation.

  • Fill cut edges and joints with MDF-compatible filler
  • Apply undercoat and topcoat paint for best protection
  • Seal cut edges in moisture-prone areas with primer or sealant
  • Maintain good ventilation in bathrooms and kitchens
  • Store in dry conditions before installation

Limitations and storage

MDF is not suitable for external use or areas subject to prolonged water immersion. Whilst moisture resistant, this profile should not be used in fully wet environments such as shower enclosures or external cladding. Store flat in dry conditions and protect from moisture during transport and on-site. The material is denser than solid timber and requires sharp tools for clean cutting. Dust extraction is recommended when cutting to manage MDF dust safely.

  • Not suitable for external applications
  • Avoid prolonged water immersion or direct spray
  • Store flat and protect from moisture
  • Use dust extraction when cutting
  • Not recommended for load-bearing structural applications
