How and where to use guide
Mini Ogree Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 44mm
Typical applications
This profiled MDF is ideal for fitted shelving systems, partition backing boards, and as a structural support element in cabinetry. The 44mm width and 18mm thickness provide sufficient stability for load-bearing shelves when properly supported. It works well as a backing material for wall-mounted units and can be used in kitchen and bathroom installations due to its moisture-resistant properties. The primed surface accepts paint and stain finishes readily, making it suitable for both visible and concealed applications.
- Fitted shelving and shelf support systems
- Partition and stud backing boards
- Cabinet and cupboard construction
- Kitchen and bathroom wall backing
- Decorative wall panelling and trim applications
Installation and fixing
The profile can be fixed using standard adhesives and fastening systems suitable for MDF. Ensure the board is properly supported along its length to prevent sagging, particularly when used for shelving. In moisture-prone areas, seal all cut edges with appropriate MDF edge sealant to maintain the moisture-resistant properties. Allow adequate spacing for expansion and contraction, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms where humidity levels fluctuate.
- Use quality MDF-grade adhesives for bonding applications
- Screw or nail fixing should be pre-drilled to prevent splitting
- Support shelving at intervals appropriate to load requirements
- Seal all cut edges with MDF edge sealant in wet areas
- Allow 2-3mm expansion gaps in moisture-prone environments
Limitations and maintenance
Whilst moisture-resistant, this MDF should not be used in fully wet environments such as shower enclosures or external applications. The primed surface provides protection but does not eliminate the need for finishing. Regular cleaning with a dry or slightly damp cloth is recommended. Avoid prolonged exposure to standing water or high-pressure water jets. The 5.49m length may require careful handling and storage to prevent warping.
- Not suitable for external use or fully wet environments
- Requires finishing with paint or stain for best results
- Store flat and in dry conditions before installation
- Protect from water ingress at joints and cut edges
- Not recommended for load-bearing structural applications without additional support
On-site handling and storage
Store the board flat in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and moisture sources. The 5.49m length requires adequate support to prevent bowing during storage and transport. Keep the product wrapped or covered until ready for installation to protect the primed surface from dust and damage. Allow the board to acclimatise to the installation environment for 24-48 hours before fixing, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms where humidity levels differ from storage conditions.
- Store horizontally on level, dry supports
- Protect from moisture, direct sunlight, and temperature extremes
- Handle carefully to avoid damage to primed edges
- Allow acclimatisation time before installation in variable humidity areas
- Keep packaging intact until ready to use
