How and where to use guide
Standard Ogee Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 117mm
Typical applications
This ogee profile is commonly used for interior trim, skirting boards, architrave, and decorative wall panelling where a curved, finished edge is desired. The moisture-resistant treatment makes it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and utility areas where humidity levels are elevated but not extreme. It can also be used for shelving edging, cabinet trim, and general joinery where a professional appearance is required without the cost of solid timber.
- Interior skirting and architrave
- Kitchen and bathroom trim
- Shelving and cabinet edging
- Wall panelling and decorative features
- General joinery and finishing work
Installation and fixing
Measure and mark your fixing points before cutting. The profile can be cut to length using a fine-toothed saw or circular saw; support the material firmly to prevent chipping. Fix using panel pins, screws, or construction adhesive suitable for MDF, ensuring fixings are spaced at 300-400mm intervals for skirting applications. Pre-drill screw holes to prevent splitting. The primed surface accepts paint and stain directly, though light sanding between coats improves adhesion.
- Cut to length with fine-toothed saw, supporting material throughout
- Fix at 300-400mm centres using panel pins, screws, or MDF adhesive
- Pre-drill all screw holes to prevent splitting
- Fill nail and screw holes with MDF filler before finishing
- Sand lightly between paint coats for best results
Limitations and site conditions
Whilst moisture-resistant, this profile is not suitable for external use or areas of prolonged water exposure such as shower enclosures or exterior cladding. MDF is denser than timber and more difficult to work with hand tools; power tools are recommended for cutting and shaping. Avoid exposing cut edges to moisture; seal these with primer or paint. Store flat and dry on site, and allow the material to acclimatise to the building environment for 24-48 hours before installation.
- Not suitable for external or fully wet environments
- Protect cut edges with primer or paint to prevent moisture ingress
- Store flat and dry; allow acclimatisation time before fixing
- Use power tools for efficient cutting and shaping
- Do not use in areas subject to sustained water spray or submersion
Finishing and maintenance
The primed surface is ready for painting or staining. Apply undercoat and topcoat as per paint manufacturer's instructions, or use quality wood stain for a timber-like finish. Once painted or sealed, the profile requires minimal maintenance. Wipe clean with a damp cloth; avoid prolonged moisture contact. In kitchens and bathrooms, ensure adequate ventilation to prevent condensation buildup on the surface.
- Paint with standard interior undercoat and topcoat
- Alternatively apply wood stain for natural appearance
- Maintain good ventilation in damp areas
- Clean with damp cloth; do not saturate
- Inspect periodically for paint damage and touch up as needed
