How and where to use guide
Ovolo Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 148mm
Typical applications
This moulding profile is commonly used for interior wall finishing, including decorative panelling, dado rails, and picture rails. It works well as an architrave around doorways and windows, and can be fitted into standard timber framing systems. The profile is also suitable as a base or edge trim for fitted shelving units and storage solutions. Its moisture-resistant properties make it particularly useful in kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas where humidity levels may be elevated.
- Decorative wall panelling and feature walls
- Architrave and door frame finishing
- Shelving unit edging and trim
- Dado and picture rail applications
- Kitchen and bathroom wall finishing
Installation and fitting
Measure and mark your wall or frame carefully before cutting. The 5.49 metre length can be cut to size using a fine-toothed saw or circular saw. Ensure cuts are clean and square for neat joints. Fix the profile using appropriate fixings for your substrate—typically panel pins, screws, or adhesive suitable for MDF. Allow adequate spacing for expansion and contraction, particularly in moisture-prone areas. The primed surface is ready for immediate painting or staining once installed; sand lightly between coats for a professional finish.
- Measure twice, cut once to minimise waste
- Use fine-toothed saws for clean edges
- Secure with panel pins, screws, or MDF-grade adhesive
- Allow for natural expansion in humid environments
- Sand lightly before final decoration
Maintenance and care
Although moisture-resistant, this MDF profile should not be exposed to prolonged standing water or extreme humidity without adequate ventilation. Wipe down regularly with a dry cloth to prevent dust accumulation. The primed surface protects the material; maintain paint or stain coverage to preserve moisture resistance. In high-moisture areas such as bathrooms, ensure proper ventilation and consider additional protective coatings. Avoid direct contact with radiators or heat sources, which can cause warping.
- Keep dry and well-ventilated, especially in kitchens and bathrooms
- Maintain paint or stain finish for optimal protection
- Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct heat sources
Limitations and considerations
MDF is not suitable for external use or areas of continuous moisture exposure. The profile is designed for interior applications only. Whilst moisture-resistant, it is not fully waterproof and should not be used in wet rooms without additional protective measures. Heavy loads should be adequately supported by the underlying structure. The primed finish provides a base for decoration but does not provide the final protective coating—painting or staining is essential for durability and appearance.
- Interior use only—not suitable for external applications
- Not fully waterproof; avoid prolonged water contact
- Requires painting or staining for final protection
- Ensure adequate structural support for shelving applications
