Regency Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 198mm

Typical applications

This profile board is commonly used for fitted shelving units, kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, furniture construction, and decorative wall panelling in domestic and commercial interiors. The 18mm thickness provides adequate structural support for shelving that will carry moderate loads when properly supported. It is also suitable for bespoke furniture projects where a stable, paintable surface is required. The moisture resistant properties make it a practical choice for areas prone to humidity fluctuations.

  • Fitted shelving and storage solutions
  • Kitchen and bathroom cabinetry
  • Furniture making and bespoke joinery
  • Decorative wall panelling and feature walls
  • Interior partition and backing boards

Preparation and finishing

The board arrives primed, which means the surface has been sealed and is ready for final decoration. Before applying paint, varnish or stain, inspect the surface for any damage and lightly sand with fine grit paper (120-150 grit) to improve adhesion and create a smooth finish. Fill any edge damage or screw holes with appropriate MDF filler, sand flush when dry, and apply primer to these areas. The primed finish significantly reduces preparation time compared to unprimed boards. Always apply at least two coats of quality paint or varnish for durability and moisture protection, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms.

  • Lightly sand primed surface with 120-150 grit paper before finishing
  • Fill damaged edges or holes with MDF filler and sand smooth
  • Prime any filled areas or exposed edges
  • Apply minimum two coats of quality paint, varnish or stain
  • Allow adequate drying time between coats as per product instructions

Cutting, handling and installation

The 5.49m length should be measured and marked carefully before cutting to minimise waste. Use a fine-toothed saw or circular saw with a fine blade to achieve clean edges and reduce chipping. MDF dust is generated during cutting, so wear a dust mask and work in a well-ventilated area. Support the board adequately during cutting to prevent sagging and binding. When installing as shelving, ensure brackets or supports are positioned at appropriate intervals (typically 400-600mm for moderate loads) and securely fixed to wall studs or appropriate wall fixings. The 18mm thickness is adequate for most domestic applications when properly supported.

  • Measure twice and cut once to minimise waste
  • Use fine-toothed saw blades to reduce chipping
  • Wear dust mask when cutting MDF
  • Support board during cutting to prevent sagging
  • Space shelf supports at 400-600mm intervals for moderate loads
  • Secure all fixings to solid wall structure or use appropriate heavy-duty anchors

Moisture resistance and maintenance

Whilst this board is moisture resistant, it is not waterproof and should not be exposed to standing water or prolonged wet conditions. In kitchens and bathrooms, ensure good ventilation and wipe up spills promptly. The moisture resistant properties help the board resist swelling and warping in humid environments, but the finished surface (paint or varnish) is critical to maintaining this protection. Inspect painted or varnished surfaces periodically and touch up any damage to the finish to prevent moisture ingress. Do not use this product in external locations or fully wet areas such as shower enclosures.

  • Not suitable for external use or fully wet environments
  • Maintain good ventilation in kitchens and bathrooms
  • Wipe up spills promptly to prevent moisture absorption
  • Keep protective finish intact by touching up damage promptly
  • Avoid prolonged contact with standing water or steam
