How and where to use guide
Regency Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 219mm
Typical applications and installation
This profile board is commonly used for creating sturdy shelving units, fitted wardrobes, wall panelling and cabinet carcassing. The 18mm thickness is substantial enough to span shelving without excessive deflection when properly supported. Installation is straightforward using standard fixings into wall studs or support frames. The 219mm width suits most domestic and commercial interior spaces, reducing the number of boards required for full wall coverage. Ensure boards are cut to length using a fine-toothed saw to minimise chipping at edges.
- Wall linings and panelling in kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms
- Shelving and storage solutions with appropriate support brackets
- Cabinet and furniture construction for domestic and commercial use
- Fitted furniture projects requiring a professional primed finish
Moisture resistance and environmental conditions
The moisture resistant priming provides protection in areas subject to occasional splashing or elevated humidity, such as kitchens and bathrooms. However, this product is not suitable for external use or areas of persistent water exposure. Store boards flat in a dry environment before installation to prevent warping. Allow boards to acclimatise to site conditions for 48 hours prior to fitting. Avoid direct contact with water and ensure adequate ventilation around installed boards to prevent moisture accumulation.
- Suitable for internal use in moderately damp environments
- Not recommended for external applications or wet rooms with constant moisture
- Store flat and dry before installation
- Allow acclimatisation time on site
Finishing and maintenance
The primed surface is ready for decoration with emulsion paint, eggshell or specialist finishes. Light sanding between coats improves paint adhesion. Protect cut edges with primer or paint to maintain moisture resistance. Once installed, maintain boards by wiping clean with a dry cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and ensure any spills are dried promptly. The primed finish will require periodic repainting to maintain protection and appearance.
- Prime all cut edges before final decoration
- Paint with quality emulsion, eggshell or specialist finishes
- Wipe clean with dry cloth for routine maintenance
- Repaint periodically to maintain moisture protection
On-site handling and safety
MDF boards are heavy; the 5.49m length requires two operatives for safe handling. Use proper lifting techniques and support boards adequately during transport and installation to prevent breakage. Wear a dust mask when cutting or sanding MDF, as fine dust can irritate respiratory systems. Ensure adequate workspace for cutting and assembly. Use appropriate fixings for wall type, consulting structural guidance for load-bearing applications. Check local building regulations for any requirements relating to fire performance or material specifications.
