Torus Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 219mm
What this product is and who it's for
This is a moisture-resistant MDF moulding profile with a torus (rounded) design. MDF (medium-density fibreboard) is engineered wood that machines cleanly and accepts paint finishes well. The moisture-resistant formulation makes it more stable than standard MDF in kitchens, bathrooms, and utility areas where humidity levels fluctuate. The primed surface means you can paint or finish it immediately without primer application. It suits builders, decorators, and experienced DIYers installing feature walls, dado rails, or architectural detailing.
- Moisture-resistant MDF construction for durability in humid environments
- Pre-primed finish ready for paint or stain
- Torus profile provides traditional decorative appeal
- 5.49 metre length minimises joints on most wall runs
Sizing and compatibility
At 219mm wide and 18mm thick, this is a substantial profile suitable for feature walls and prominent architectural applications. The width makes it visually striking and the thickness provides structural integrity for wall-mounted installation. Check your wall surface is flat and sound before fixing; uneven plasterwork or damaged surfaces will show through the profile. Ensure you have appropriate fixings for your wall type—cavity walls, solid brick, and plasterboard all require different approaches.
- 219mm width creates bold visual impact
- 18mm thickness provides rigidity and weight-bearing capacity
- 5.49 metres covers approximately 5.5 linear metres of wall
- Requires flat, sound substrate for best results
Pre-installation checks and preparation
Before fixing, inspect the board for damage and check that your wall surface is clean, dry, and level. The primed surface should be examined for any damage during transit or storage; minor marks can be touched up with primer. Acclimatise the board to the room for 48 hours before installation to allow moisture equilibrium, particularly important in bathrooms and kitchens. Plan your layout to minimise visible joints and ensure fixings are positioned to avoid splitting the board.
- Allow 48 hours acclimatisation in the installation room
- Check wall is flat, clean, and structurally sound
- Inspect primed surface for transit damage
- Plan fixing positions to avoid board edges where possible
- Use appropriate fixings for your wall type (screws for timber, cavity fixings for plasterboard, masonry anchors for brick)
Finishing and maintenance
The primed surface accepts standard interior paint, eggshell, or satin finishes. Two coats of quality paint are recommended for best coverage and durability. Once painted, the profile is easy to clean and maintain with a damp cloth. The moisture-resistant formulation means it will perform better than standard MDF in kitchens and bathrooms, though good ventilation remains essential to prevent condensation issues.
- Apply two coats of interior paint for best finish
- Eggshell or satin finishes recommended for durability
- Wipe clean with damp cloth for maintenance
- Ensure adequate room ventilation in moisture-prone areas
