Fixing and buying guide
Torus Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 97mm
What you're buying
You are purchasing one continuous length of primed MDF moulding. The 18mm thickness and 97mm height make this a full-size profile suitable for visible trim work. The moisture-resistant treatment protects the MDF core in damp environments, though it is not suitable for external use or areas of prolonged water immersion. The white primer coat provides a neutral base for any paint colour you choose.
- Length: 5.49 metres per length
- Dimensions: 18mm thick x 97mm tall
- Material: Moisture-resistant MDF with primer coat
- Finish: Factory primed, ready to paint
- Suitable for: Internal walls, kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms
Compatibility and sizing
This profile is designed for standard internal wall applications. Check your wall surface is flat and sound before fixing; uneven plaster or damaged surfaces will show through the moulding. The 97mm height makes it suitable for skirting boards, dado rails, or feature trim where a substantial visual presence is needed. Measure your room perimeter carefully and allow extra length for waste at corners and joints—typically 10 per cent extra is recommended for cutting and fitting.
- Works on plaster, plasterboard, and painted masonry
- Requires flat, stable wall surface
- Plan for 45-degree mitred or scribed joints at internal corners
- Allow waste for cutting and fitting errors
Fixing and preparation
Fix using cornice adhesive, panel pins, or a combination of both for security. Pre-drill pin holes to prevent splitting, especially near the edges. The primed surface requires no sanding before painting, but inspect for any damage during delivery and touch up with primer if needed. Paint with standard interior emulsion or eggshell finish once adhesive has fully cured (check adhesive instructions for drying time, typically 24 hours).
- Use cornice adhesive rated for MDF and moisture-resistant products
- Secure with 40-50mm panel pins at 300-400mm centres
- Pre-drill to avoid splitting
- Allow adhesive to cure fully before painting
- Paint with interior emulsion or eggshell; primer coat already applied
Pre-installation checks
Inspect the length for damage, warping, or defects before fixing. Store flat and indoors in a dry environment until installation. Acclimatise the moulding to the room for 48 hours before fixing to allow for any minor moisture movement. Ensure your adhesive and fixings are suitable for moisture-resistant MDF and that your wall surface is clean, dry, and free from dust or loose material.
- Check for warping, splits, or damage on delivery
- Store flat indoors in dry conditions
- Allow 48 hours acclimatisation before fixing
- Clean wall surface thoroughly before adhesive application
- Confirm adhesive and fixings are MDF-compatible
