How and where to use guide
Torus Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 97mm
Typical applications
This profile is ideal for skirting boards in moisture-prone rooms, internal architraves around doorways, and decorative wall panelling in kitchens and bathrooms. The torus shape suits both traditional and contemporary interiors. It can also be used as dado rail or cornice trim where a softer, rounded profile is preferred over sharp edges.
- Skirting boards in kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms
- Door and window architraves
- Dado rails and wall panelling
- Decorative cornice and trim work
- Internal feature walls and alcoves
Installation and site tips
Measure and cut lengths carefully before fixing; a fine-toothed saw or mitre saw produces the cleanest cuts. Pre-drill nail holes to prevent splitting, particularly near ends. Use moisture-resistant adhesive and stainless steel or galvanised fixings in damp areas. Allow the primed surface to acclimate to room conditions for 24 hours before final decoration. Seal cut ends with primer or undercoat to protect the exposed MDF core, especially in bathrooms and kitchens.
- Cut with fine-toothed saw; mitre saw recommended for angled joints
- Pre-drill all nail holes to prevent splitting
- Use stainless steel or galvanised fixings in moisture-prone areas
- Seal all cut ends with primer before final painting
- Allow 24 hours acclimation before decoration
Limitations and maintenance
Although moisture resistant, this profile is not suitable for external use or areas of prolonged direct water contact such as shower enclosures or window sills. Avoid standing water and ensure good ventilation in bathrooms and kitchens. The primed finish protects the core but requires final decoration—topcoat with quality interior paint or stain. In high-humidity environments, monitor for any swelling at joints and ensure sealant remains intact around wet areas.
- Not suitable for external use or direct water immersion
- Requires final topcoat of paint or stain
- Maintain good ventilation in bathrooms and kitchens
- Inspect sealant regularly in high-moisture areas
- Avoid prolonged contact with standing water
Finishing and decoration
The primed surface accepts most interior paints and stains directly. For best results, lightly sand the primed face with fine-grit paper (180–220 grit) to improve paint adhesion, then apply two coats of quality interior paint or one coat of wood stain. Ensure all cut ends and joints are sealed with primer or undercoat before topcoating. In kitchens and bathrooms, use moisture-resistant or satin-finish paints to enhance durability.
- Light sand primed surface before final decoration
- Apply two coats of interior paint or one coat of stain
- Seal all cut ends with primer before topcoat
- Use satin or moisture-resistant paint in damp areas
- Allow adequate drying time between coats
