How and where to use guide

Square Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 70mm

Typical applications

This profile is commonly used as a structural or decorative component in interior building work. Its square profile and substantial 70mm width make it suitable for shelving supports, furniture frames, architectural trim, and partition work where a clean, stable edge is required. The 18mm thickness provides adequate strength for load-bearing applications in dry conditions.

  • Shelving and storage unit construction
  • Furniture frame and cabinet making
  • Interior architectural trim and moulding
  • Partition and stud work in dry environments
  • Decorative panelling and feature walls

Installation and handling

Store the profile in a dry location before use to maintain its moisture resistant properties. The 5.49m length allows for long runs without joints, though it can be cut to length using standard woodworking tools. Ensure all cut edges are sealed with appropriate primer or paint to maintain the moisture resistant coating. Support the profile adequately during installation to prevent sagging, particularly when spanning longer distances. Use appropriate fixings such as screws or nails suitable for MDF, ensuring they are countersunk and filled if a smooth finish is required.

  • Store in dry conditions before installation
  • Cut to length using fine-toothed saws to minimise chipping
  • Seal all cut edges with primer or paint
  • Support adequately to prevent deflection
  • Use MDF-compatible fixings, countersunk and filled as needed

Environment and limitations

This product is suitable for use in dry environments only and must not be installed in areas subject to wet or damp conditions, such as bathrooms, kitchens with high moisture, external locations, or areas prone to condensation. Prolonged exposure to moisture will compromise the integrity of the material and the moisture resistant coating. Ensure adequate ventilation in the installation area to prevent humidity build-up.

  • Not suitable for wet or damp environments
  • Do not use in bathrooms, kitchens or external applications
  • Avoid areas with high condensation risk
  • Maintain good ventilation in installation spaces
  • Protect from water ingress and direct moisture exposure

Finishing and maintenance

The primed surface is ready to receive paint, stain or varnish. Apply finishing coats according to the manufacturer's instructions for your chosen product. Regular maintenance involves light dusting and occasional wiping with a dry cloth. Do not use wet cleaning methods or allow standing water on the surface. In dry interior environments, the profile requires minimal maintenance once finished. Check periodically for any signs of damage to the protective coating and touch up as necessary.

  • Apply paint, stain or varnish over the primed surface
  • Use dry cleaning methods only
  • Avoid wet cleaning or standing water
  • Touch up any damaged areas promptly
  • Maintain dry conditions throughout the product's life
