Fixing and buying guide
Magply 2400 x 1200 12mm
What this product is and who needs it
Magply 12mm is a premium non-combustible board for projects where fire resistance is a regulatory requirement. It combines structural integrity with Euroclass A1 fire performance, making it essential for fire-rated wall assemblies, roof systems and floor constructions. Contractors and builders working on projects subject to fire safety compliance—including certain residential developments, commercial buildings and regulated construction—rely on this board to meet building control standards.
Sizing and coverage
Each sheet measures 2400mm long by 1200mm wide and 12mm thick. This 8' x 4' format is the standard for efficient coverage with minimal waste. Calculate your total area in square metres, then divide by 2.88 (the area of one sheet) to determine the number of boards required. Always order a small surplus to account for cutting, edge details and site contingency.
- Sheet area: 2.88 square metres
- Typical coverage: one sheet covers a 2400 x 1200mm wall or roof section
- Order extra boards for perimeter cuts, reveals and waste
Compatibility and installation
Magply 12mm is suitable for use in wall systems, roof assemblies and flooring installations. Confirm with your structural engineer or building control that this thickness and fire rating meet your specific system design. The board must be fixed securely to the supporting structure—typically timber or steel framing—using appropriate fixings for your application. Ensure your fixing schedule and substrate preparation align with the board manufacturer's installation guidance and your fire-rated system specification.
- Verify compatibility with your wall, roof or floor system design
- Check fixing requirements with your structural drawings
- Confirm fire-rated system approval before installation
- Ensure substrate is sound, dry and properly prepared
Pre-installation checks
Before fixing, inspect all boards for damage or moisture ingress during delivery and storage. Store boards flat and dry on site, protected from weather. Check that your framing is plumb, level and at the correct spacing to receive the board. Verify that all fixings, adhesives and accessories specified for your fire-rated system are on site and meet the same fire performance standard. Confirm building control approval of your system design before commencing work.
