How and where to use guide

Window Board Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 3.05 Mtr 25mm x 350mm

Typical applications and installation

This windowboard is used as an internal sill finish in new builds and refurbishment projects. It sits horizontally between the inner window frame and the room interior, providing both a functional surface and a neat aesthetic finish. The rebated back edge slots into the window frame rebate, creating a secure, flush joint. The 350mm width suits most standard window openings; measure your opening width before ordering to confirm fit. Installation requires fixing to the window frame or supporting structure using appropriate adhesive and/or mechanical fixings such as screws or nails, ensuring the board is level and fully supported along its length.

  • Measure window opening width and depth before purchase
  • Check that rebated back edge aligns with your window frame profile
  • Support the full length of the board during installation to prevent sagging
  • Allow adhesive to cure fully before applying finish or loading the sill
  • Ensure the bullnosed front edge faces into the room for safety and appearance

Moisture resistance and suitable locations

The moisture resistant MDF core is engineered to resist swelling and degradation in humid environments. This makes it appropriate for kitchens, bathrooms, en-suites and other areas where condensation or occasional splashing occurs. However, it is not suitable for external use or areas subject to prolonged wet conditions, standing water or direct weather exposure. In very wet locations, consider additional protection such as a waterproof sealant or paint system. The primed surface provides a base for decoration but does not itself provide full moisture protection.

  • Suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and other humid internal spaces
  • Not suitable for external windowsills or areas exposed to weather
  • Apply quality paint or finish to enhance moisture resistance
  • Ensure good ventilation in bathrooms to minimise condensation buildup
  • Avoid prolonged contact with standing water or wet materials

Finishing and maintenance

The board arrives primed, meaning the surface is sealed and ready for decoration. Apply two coats of quality interior paint, eggshell or satin finish for best results and durability. Eggshell or satin finishes are preferable to matt as they offer better moisture resistance and are easier to clean. Once finished, maintain the windowsill by wiping regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust and condensation. Avoid placing hot items directly on the surface and wipe up spills promptly to prevent water ingress at joints or edges.

  • Paint with two coats of quality interior eggshell or satin finish
  • Allow paint to cure fully before use
  • Wipe regularly with a damp cloth; avoid soaking
  • Wipe up spills immediately to prevent water damage
  • Do not place hot items directly on the surface

Handling and on-site storage

MDF is relatively brittle compared to solid timber, so handle with care to avoid chipping or damaging the bullnosed edge during transport and storage. Store the board flat or on edge in a dry, well-ventilated location, protected from rain and direct sunlight. Avoid stacking heavy items on top of the board as this can cause warping or permanent deflection. Keep the board away from damp conditions before installation, as moisture ingress before priming and finishing can compromise performance.

  • Handle carefully to protect the bullnosed front edge from damage
  • Store flat or on edge in a dry, sheltered location
  • Do not stack heavy items on the board
  • Keep away from damp conditions before installation
  • Protect from rain and direct sunlight during storage
