VELUX EKW MK08 2021M Combi Flashing Kit 780mm x 1398mm

Suitable applications and roof types

This combi flashing kit is designed specifically for pitched roofs combining slate and tile materials. It works where your roof features both slate and tile sections, or where you need flexibility in material choice during installation. The kit is compatible with standard VELUX roof window installations on residential pitched roofs. It is not suitable for flat roofs, single-material roofs where dedicated slate-only or tile-only flashings would be more appropriate, or non-standard roof pitches outside the design parameters.

  • Mixed-material pitched roofs with both slate and tile present
  • Standard residential roof pitches
  • VELUX roof window installations requiring weathertight sealing
  • Situations where material flexibility is needed during build

Installation and on-site use

Install the flashing kit around your VELUX roof window opening before laying the final slate or tile courses. Position the kit so it sits flush against the window frame, with the upper section overlapping the roof material above the window and the lower section sitting beneath the material below. The 780mm width and 1398mm height are designed to accommodate the window frame whilst providing adequate overlap for weatherproofing. Ensure all edges are sealed and secured according to VELUX installation instructions to prevent water ingress at the critical junction between window and roofing.

  • Install before final slate or tile courses are laid
  • Position to overlap roofing material above and below the window
  • Ensure flush contact with window frame on all sides
  • Seal all edges and secure according to manufacturer guidance
  • Check for gaps or movement before completing roof work

Maintenance and durability

Once installed, the flashing kit requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the seal around the window frame, particularly after severe weather, to ensure no water is entering. Clear any debris such as moss, leaves or slate fragments from the flashing edges to maintain water run-off. The combi design means you have a single integrated flashing to monitor rather than multiple separate components, reducing potential failure points. If damage occurs to the flashing, the entire kit should be replaced to maintain weathertightness.

  • Inspect seals after severe weather or seasonal changes
  • Keep flashing edges clear of debris and moss
  • Monitor for water staining or damp around the window frame
  • Replace the entire kit if damage is found rather than attempting repair

Key advantages and limitations

The main advantage of this combi kit is simplicity: one product handles both slate and tile scenarios, reducing the risk of ordering incorrect flashings and speeding up installation. This is particularly valuable on mixed-material roofs where material boundaries are present. The limitation is that it is designed for pitched roofs only and standard roof pitches; non-standard angles or flat roof installations require alternative solutions. Additionally, if your roof uses only slate or only tiles, a dedicated single-material flashing may offer a more tailored fit, though this combi kit will still perform effectively.

  • Single product eliminates need for multiple flashing types
  • Reduces on-site stock requirements and ordering complexity
  • Pitched roof only—not suitable for flat roofs
  • Standard pitch design—check compatibility with non-standard angles
