How and where to use guide
VELUX EDL FK04 2000 Single Slate Flashing 66cm x 98cm
Typical applications and roof types
This flashing is engineered specifically for slate roof installations where VELUX roof windows or Sun Tunnel systems need to be fitted. It works with standard slate roof profiles and is compatible with the full range of VELUX roof window products. Use this flashing in both new build projects and refurbishment work where existing slate roofs are being upgraded with roof windows or light tunnels.
- Slate roof installations with 8mm slate profile compatibility
- New build and refurbishment roof window installations
- VELUX roof window and Sun Tunnel system integration
- Projects requiring visually consistent roof finishes
Installation and on-site guidance
The flashing must be installed around the roof window opening before the window unit itself is fitted. Position the aluminium flashing so it sits flush with the slate profile, ensuring the weather-tight seal engages properly with both the roof structure and the window frame. The 660 × 980mm dimensions accommodate standard VELUX window sizes; verify your specific window model is compatible before ordering. Secure the flashing according to VELUX installation instructions, which typically involve fixing to the roof structure and sealing joints with appropriate roof sealant. Ensure all edges are properly seated to prevent water ingress.
- Install flashing before fitting the roof window unit
- Position flush with slate profile for weather-tight seal
- Verify window model compatibility with this flashing size
- Follow VELUX installation guidance for fixing and sealing
- Check all edges are properly seated before final inspection
Maintenance and durability
The aluminium construction is engineered to withstand UK roof conditions and requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the flashing and surrounding sealant, particularly after severe weather or seasonal changes. Clear any debris from the roof surface around the flashing to prevent water pooling. The weather-tight seal should remain effective for the life of the roof if installed correctly and kept clear of obstruction. If sealant deteriorates over time, it can be re-applied without removing the flashing.
- Inspect flashing and sealant annually and after severe weather
- Keep roof surface clear of debris around the flashing
- Re-seal joints if sealant shows signs of deterioration
- Aluminium construction requires no special treatment
Limitations and important notes
This flashing is designed exclusively for 8mm slate roof profiles; it is not suitable for other roof coverings such as tiles, asphalt, or standing seam metal. Compatibility is limited to VELUX roof window and Sun Tunnel systems; do not use with third-party window products. The 660 × 980mm size is fixed and cannot be cut or modified on site. Ensure the roof structure can support the window installation weight and that adequate ventilation is maintained around the installed window.
- 8mm slate compatibility only; not suitable for other roof types
- VELUX products only; not compatible with third-party windows
- Fixed dimensions; cannot be cut or resized on site
- Verify roof structure can support window installation
