Fixing and buying guide
Traditional Victorian Clear Pine 4 Panel Internal Door 610mm x 1981mm x 35mm
Who this door is for
This door suits homeowners and builders restoring period properties, creating traditional interiors, or simply preferring the aesthetic of panelled softwood doors over modern flush designs. It is not suitable for external use or high-moisture environments such as bathrooms without additional protective treatment. Clear pine is a working timber and may show natural variation in grain, colour, and minor surface marks typical of the species.
Sizing and compatibility
The door measures 610mm wide by 1981mm high by 35mm thick. This width is a standard single-door size for internal rooms. The 1981mm height suits most UK domestic ceiling heights but should be checked against your actual opening; if your opening is significantly taller, the door will require topping out or you may need a taller size. The door is pre-hung or supplied as a blank depending on your order; confirm whether hinges and latch hardware are included or must be purchased separately.
- Measure your opening width, height, and depth (including architrave) before purchase
- Check floor level and ensure no obstructions will prevent the door swinging freely
- Verify ceiling height to confirm 1981mm is appropriate for your space
- Allow clearance for door furniture and handles
Preparation and fixing
Clear pine doors are typically supplied unfinished or with a light sanding. Before hanging, inspect the door for any damage or warping. Store the door flat indoors for at least 48 hours to acclimatise to your home's humidity. Sand lightly with fine-grit paper if needed, then apply your chosen finish—paint, stain, or clear varnish—to all surfaces including edges to protect against moisture movement. Hang the door using three hinges (standard for internal doors) and ensure it is plumb and level before securing permanently.
- Allow door to acclimatise indoors before hanging
- Sand and finish all surfaces, including top and bottom edges
- Use three hinges for stability
- Check door is plumb and level during installation
- Fit latch hardware and handles after hanging is complete
Pack contents and what to order separately
Confirm whether your purchase includes hinges, handles, and latch furniture or if these must be ordered separately. For a 35mm internal door, you will need standard internal door hinges (typically 75mm or 100mm) and a suitable latch mechanism. Decorative handles and knobs are usually sold separately. You may also need packers or shims for levelling during installation, and appropriate fixings for your door frame type.
