How and where to use guide
PREMDOR 4 PANEL SMOOTH FD30 FIRESHIELD 762MM X 1981MM X 44MM PEFC COMPLIANT
Typical applications and fire safety
This FD30 Fireshield door is designed for internal use in buildings where fire compartmentalisation is required. FD30 rating means the door will resist fire and smoke for up to 30 minutes, making it suitable for corridors, stairwells, plant rooms and other fire-safety-critical locations in both commercial and residential buildings. The door must be fitted with appropriate fire-rated hinges, locks and seals to maintain its fire rating. Always verify building regulations compliance for your specific application before installation.
- FD30 fire rating for 30-minute fire resistance
- Suitable for internal compartmentalisation in commercial and residential properties
- Requires fire-rated hardware and seals to maintain certification
- PEFC compliant timber sourcing
- 762mm x 1981mm x 44mm standard size
Installation and fitting
The door should be hung using fire-rated hinges and fitted with fire-rated locks and latches appropriate to your application. Ensure the door frame is properly installed and level before hanging. The 44mm thickness is standard for fire-rated internal doors. All gaps around the frame must be sealed with fire-rated sealant or intumescent strips to preserve the FD30 rating. Do not cut or modify the door without consulting the manufacturer, as this may compromise fire performance.
- Use only fire-rated hinges, locks and seals
- Ensure frame is level and square before hanging
- Seal all gaps with fire-rated materials
- Do not cut or drill the door without manufacturer approval
- Check that door closes fully and latches securely
On-site finishing and painting
The door arrives with a white base coat, which provides an excellent primer for on-site finishing. The smooth moulded panel faces are designed to accept paint or stain without further preparation. Sand lightly with fine-grit sandpaper if needed to remove any dust or minor imperfections, then apply your chosen finish. Use quality interior paint or stain suitable for timber doors. Apply at least two coats for even coverage and durability. Allow adequate drying time between coats as per paint manufacturer instructions.
- White base coat provides ready-to-paint surface
- Smooth faces require minimal preparation
- Light sanding with fine-grit paper before painting is optional
- Apply two coats minimum for best finish
- Use quality interior paint or timber stain
- Allow full drying time between coats
Maintenance and on-site care
Once finished and installed, maintain the door as you would any internal timber door. Wipe down with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct water contact, which can damage the timber and compromise the fire rating. Check periodically that the door closes properly and that seals remain intact. Do not paint over fire-rated seals or hardware. For any damage to the door or seals, contact the manufacturer or supplier for repair or replacement advice.
- Wipe clean with damp cloth as needed
- Avoid prolonged moisture exposure
- Check door closure and seal integrity regularly
- Do not paint over fire-rated seals or hardware
- Report any damage to seals or fire-rated components immediately
