How and where to use guide

Oak Regency 4 Panel Raised Moulding Unfinished Door 1981mm x 686mm x 35mm

Suitable applications and locations

This door is designed for internal use only and works well in hallways, bedrooms, living rooms, and studies where a traditional Regency or period-inspired look is desired. The symmetrical four-panel design with raised moulding suits both heritage properties and modern homes seeking classic character. It is not suitable for external doors, wet rooms, or areas subject to high moisture or direct sunlight exposure that could cause the unfinished oak to warp or discolour unevenly.

  • Internal doorways in period or contemporary interiors
  • Standard UK door frame openings (1981mm x 686mm)
  • Hallways, bedrooms, lounges, and reception rooms
  • Not suitable for external, bathroom, or kitchen applications

Preparation and finishing before hanging

The door arrives unfinished, so you must prepare and finish it before installation. Inspect the White Oak surface for any dust, debris, or minor imperfections. Sand lightly with fine-grit paper if needed to ensure a smooth base. Apply your chosen stain or paint in thin, even coats, allowing adequate drying time between coats and following the product manufacturer's instructions. Pay particular attention to the raised panels and moulding detail on both sides to ensure even colour coverage. Allow the finish to cure fully before handling or hanging the door.

  • Inspect timber for damage or defects before finishing
  • Light sand with fine-grit paper if required
  • Apply stain or paint in thin, even coats
  • Finish both front and back faces for protection and appearance
  • Allow full cure time before installation

Hanging and installation

The door is 35mm thick and requires standard internal door hanging hardware including hinges, handles, and latch mechanisms. Ensure your frame is square, level, and the correct size (1981mm x 686mm) before attempting to hang. Use three hinges for stability and proper weight distribution. Fit the door carefully, checking for even gaps around the frame and smooth operation. The solid oak construction provides good durability, but avoid forcing the door or allowing it to swing freely without a closer or damper, as this may cause panel stress over time.

  • Confirm frame dimensions and condition before hanging
  • Use three hinges for solid 35mm oak construction
  • Check for even gaps and smooth swing operation
  • Install appropriate handle and latch hardware
  • Avoid slamming or forcing the door

Maintenance and care

Once finished and hung, maintain the door by keeping it clean and dry. Wipe the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid excessive moisture or direct heat sources, which can cause the oak to move or the finish to deteriorate. If the finish becomes marked or worn, spot-touch with matching stain or paint as needed. Check hinges and hardware periodically to ensure they remain tight and the door operates smoothly. The raised panels and moulding detail may collect dust; use a soft brush or cloth to clean these areas gently.

  • Keep the door clean and dry with regular soft-cloth wiping
  • Avoid prolonged moisture exposure or direct heat
  • Inspect hinges and hardware regularly for tightness
  • Touch up finish as needed to maintain appearance
  • Clean raised panels and moulding gently to prevent dust buildup
