How and where to use guide

PREMDOR 4 PANEL TEXTURED FD30 FIRESHIELD 610MM X 1981MM X 44MM

Typical applications and where to install

Install this door in internal doorways where FD30 fire resistance is required by Building Regulations. Common locations include hallways and escape routes in multi-occupancy buildings, communal areas in apartment blocks, and any internal partition where fire safety standards apply. The traditional panel design works well in both period and contemporary interiors. The door is sized at 610mm width and 1981mm height, making it suitable for standard UK door openings; always check your frame opening dimensions before ordering. The 44mm thickness is typical for fire-rated internal doors and ensures structural integrity and acoustic performance.

  • FD30 fire rating for escape routes and communal areas
  • Internal use only — not suitable for external applications
  • Standard UK door size: 610mm wide x 1981mm high
  • 44mm thickness provides fire resistance and stability
  • Traditional 4-panel moulded design suits most interiors

On-site finishing and painting

The door arrives with a white base coat and textured face finish, ready for decoration. The textured surface provides excellent paint adhesion and helps conceal minor imperfections. Before painting, inspect the door for any transport damage and allow it to acclimatise to site conditions for 48 hours. Lightly sand the textured faces with fine-grit sandpaper (180-220 grit) to key the surface, then wipe clean with a damp cloth. Apply a quality interior paint suitable for moulded doors — two coats of emulsion or eggshell will provide good coverage and durability. Ensure adequate ventilation during and after painting, and allow proper drying time between coats as per paint manufacturer instructions.

  • White base coat and textured finish ready for painting
  • Lightly sand with fine-grit paper before applying finish coat
  • Use quality interior paint — emulsion or eggshell recommended
  • Apply two coats for best coverage and durability
  • Allow 48-hour site acclimatisation before painting

Installation and fire safety considerations

The FD30 rating is only valid when the door is installed correctly in a suitable fire-rated frame with appropriate seals and hardware. Ensure the frame is properly fitted and plumb before hanging the door. Use fire-rated hinges and ironmongery as specified for FD30 doors — standard hinges will compromise the fire rating. Install intumescent seals around the frame perimeter and under the door leaf as required by Building Regulations. Do not drill additional holes or make modifications that could affect fire performance. The door must close properly and latch securely; adjust hinges if necessary to ensure a consistent gap around the perimeter. Have the installation inspected and certified if required by your building control authority.

  • Install only in fire-rated frames with proper seals
  • Use fire-rated hinges and hardware — standard fittings will void FD30 rating
  • Fit intumescent seals as per Building Regulations requirements
  • Ensure door closes and latches securely with even gaps
  • Do not drill additional holes or modify the door leaf

Maintenance and care

Once painted and installed, maintain the door with routine cleaning using a soft cloth and mild detergent solution. Avoid abrasive cleaners or excessive moisture that could damage the paint finish. Check hinges and latches periodically to ensure smooth operation and secure closure — this is important for maintaining fire safety performance. If the paint becomes scuffed or marked, touch up with matching paint rather than sanding and repainting the entire door. Keep the door and frame clear of obstructions and ensure the latch mechanism functions correctly. In a fire safety context, never wedge or prop the door open, and ensure it closes automatically if fitted with a closer.

  • Clean with soft cloth and mild detergent — avoid abrasive products
  • Check hinges and latches regularly for smooth operation
  • Touch up paint marks rather than full repainting
  • Never wedge or prop the door open in escape routes
  • Ensure automatic closure function is maintained if fitted
